Sims Recycling Solutions Lends Voice to Coalition for American Electronics Recycling
Sims Recycling Solutions, the global leader in electronics reuse and recycling, announced recently that they have joined the Coalition for American Electronics Recycling (CAER). CAER supports passage of federal legislation to restrict the export of toxic electronic waste from the United States and promote expansion of the domestic recycling industry.
“Without strong environmental, health and safety standards, recycling electronic waste can pose a risk to not only the environment, but also to the employees working under those conditions,” stated Steve Skurnac, President, Sims Recycling Solutions, Americas. “We are proud to stand behind CAER and support their efforts to prevent toxic e-waste from entering landfills overseas.”
Introduced last June, the Responsible Electronics Recycling Act (HR 2284/SB1270) seeks to restrict toxic e-waste exports to developing countries that lack adequate safeguards for the environment and workers. There is growing bipartisan support for the bill as additional cosponsors have added their names to the bill to back Representative Gene Green (D-TX), the lead House sponsor of the bill.
The Coalition is continuing to work with both the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which have jurisdiction over the bills, as well as other Congressional offices that would benefit from the jobs created by this legislation.
