Sims Recycling Solutions’ Dallas Facility Receives R2 Certification
Sims Recycling Solutions’ Dallas facility recently received its Responsible Recycling Practices for Electronics Recyclers (R2) certification. This certification standard, supported by major original equipment manufacturers, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, the Information Technology Industry Council, public interest groups, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and U.S. state and local governments, is one of the most stringent set of requirements for electronics recyclers. The standard establishes provisions for environmental, worker health and safety, and security practices.
“Sims Recycling Solutions will continue to implement and maintain the other top industry certifications and standards, such as e-Stewards, to ensure that our environmental, employee health and safety, and security procedures are first-rate,” stated Steve Skurnac, president, Sims Recycling Solutions, Americas. “We have many individuals who work very hard to maintain these high standards because of our commitment to protect our employees and customers, the residents of the communities where we do business, and the environment.”
Sims opened the Dallas recycling facility to meet the growing need for risk-free electronic waste recycling. Open since October 2011, the facility allows Sims to offer secure, environmentally sound processing of end-of-life electronics to businesses and residents throughout Texas, including the Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio markets.
The 59,500-square-foot facility is located approximately six miles from Dallas and 27 miles from Fort Worth. The plant currently employs 93 permanent and temporary employees and provides asset management, hand-dismantling of electronics, hard drive destruction, and baling.
